Abstract

The article presents the person of the voivode of Smolensk, Krzysztof Korwin Gosiewski, with particular emphasis on the circumstances, organization and course of his diplomatic mission. He was sent by Władysław IV to Paris to the court of Louis XIII in order to liberate prince Jan Kazimierz from a French prison. The author attempted to organize and to complete the scattered and deficient information about him, and also to analyze and evaluate his diplomatic skills in the context of opinions appearing in historiography.
